On Sunday Lukie came down with another blood infection and was admitted once again to the hospital. It seems like little Luke gets blood infections every 6 weeks or so. Lukie was discharged yesterday afternoon with IV antibiotics. We are also trying ethanol locks to try to prevent future infections. We have tried ethanol locks before and we have had problems with his line clotting off. This time we are experimenting with mixing heparin with ethanol. Mike and I will be taking Luke to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital in 8 days for a small bowel transplant evaluation. The thought of going back there again gives me many mixed emotions and we are really dreading it. We will finish Lukie's antibiotic literally as we are walking out the door to leave for Pittsburgh. So hopefully we can keep him clear of any blood infections while we are gone. I just hope we can stay away from the Swine Flu. Wish us luck, we are enjoying our last few crazy busy days at home!
