Memorial Day 2010

Kaleb's 1st grade program
Last week Kaleb had a 1st grade program and sang songs throughout the year they had learned. Kaleb is an awesome singer and loved 1st grade this year. He had a great teacher Mrs. Tingey. They sang lots of fun songs and dances. Awesome Kaleb!
Utah Play
Last week Jayden had a school play all about Utah. The 4th graders worked all year preparing for the program and did an amazing job. I learned more all about Utah in that hour than I have learned my whole life! Jayden was very excited about and had a blast preforming. All of the kids were assigned a county in Utah at the first of the school year to do a resource report on and represented to county in a "county fair" to the parents. Jayden's County was Uintah. Jayden loved gathering information and preparing his the big day. He did great Way to go Jayden!!

In memory of a wonderful person
When Lukie was a newborn and sent to Primary Children's one of his primary care nurses by the name of Carrie took care of our little baby. She was so loving to him and really showed interest in his care. The last time we saw Carrie she was 9 months pregnant with a baby of her own. Luke was very sick with NEC and we didn't know if our little guy would pull through, but Carrie was there by his side. Mother's Day night I found Carrie again via Facebook. She asked how one of her favorite little patients was, and what we had found out about his condition. She asked about LUCAS not letting on that anything was wrong with Her. The next day I found out she was very sick in the hospital battling Leukemia. Today I found out she lost her battle and returned home to heaven. It is hear breaking to see a young mom (my age) to struggle and leave this life so soon. Carrie was a wonderful nurse showing compassion for all of her patients. Thanks to ALL of Lucas's wonderful nurses we have been so blessed for the love and care we have received. Thank you Carrie you have touched many lives you will be missed.

Lukie's Birthday Party!
This Saturday we celebrated Lukie's 2 birthday. We went to a park and had a picnic with family. The Theme was Curious George, we played games, decorated monkey cupcakes, ate banana splits, and had a pinata. It was the perfect day!

Toddler faces rare intestinal transplant
This is a little boy we have been privileged to meet. His Life is similar to my little Luke's. They are having a fundraising concert to raise money for a transplant. Please keep little Patrick in you prayers.
Salt Lake City (ABC 4 News) We all know about adults in need of an organ transplants. But did you know thousands of children are waiting for life saving transplants too? And some of them are right here in Utah - including little Patrick Hoopes.
"I'm going to get you. Ha, ha, ha."
Patrick and his parents enjoy playing together - even if it is in a hospital room at Primary Children's Medial Center (see slide show photos). I caught up with Emily and Brian Hoopes and 18 month old Patrick a couple of days ago in his patient room.
He is a happy and energetic baby - laughing nearly the entire time we were there. He loves funny noises and cell phones. And when he smiles and there is no sense resisting you will smile as well. Despite how happy and healthy he may look - he is dealing with a life threatening problem. His mother Emily explains."He was born without his intestines - he lost them due to a birth defect. He can't get any nutrition from what he eats - he gets all his nutrition by IV."
And Emily says that is something that cannot continue for very long "The biggest reason he needs the transplant - you can't live forever on IV nutrition." In fact, doctors told the Hoopes that without an intestinal transplant his life expectancy would be one to two years. While they are already beating the odds, they have had plenty of scares. "He'll look just fine and then an hour later were in the ER and the next couple hours we're talking about going into ICU. Then by morning he'll be fine again."
Patrick is not the only one child in need of a transplant. There are 13 other children in Utah who need a transplant and nationwide more than 1800. Patrick is on a list for a transplant at the Children's Hospital in Seattle, Washington and he is first in line in that region. While its good news for him and his family - it is not a guarantee.
The Hoopes knew what they were getting into when they adopted Patrick. They say knowing they could lose him didn't stop them then and it doesn't stop them now from enjoying every moment they have together. "You take everyday as you have it. We knew when we adopted him that we didn't now how long we would have him so we just try to make the best of the time we have."
The Hoopes say it will cost about 70 thousand dollars out of pocket for Patrick's transplant - and that is with good insurance.
Because of the enormous cost a local fund raising event is scheduled for Saturday May 22nd. To learn more about it and who is performing and to learn more about children and organ transplants click on the following websites.

I can't Believe My baby's 2!!!!
Two years ago today our little Luke joined our family. He has blessed us in so many ways we love him so much. Lukie now weighs 20 lbs and 30 inches and finally in a forward facing car seat. New words he has learned this month are: mine, fish, goat, owl, right here, Isy (Isaac) and Heidi (his health care nurse) "Hey guys!", and counts 2-3-2-3. His favorite words to say are "where it go?", "right here",no and uh-ha. Lukie loves monkey's and Curious George, little people, cars, and loves to read. He LOOOOVVVES his big brothers and want to do every thing they do. He loved singing Happy Birthday and blowing out candles over and over and over and over! His present from Mike and I was a wagon. It was a nice day today so we went for a wagon ride. He loved it! For dinner we went to Pirate Island. I felt a little funny celebrating with food:) The waitress gave us a funny look when she asked what the birthday boy wanted and I just said water. Then they brought him his birthday ice cream. We really got funny looks when he just sat and sucked on his binki and the boys and I ate his ice cream! Happy 2nd birthday little buddy! Here's to many more very happy birthdays!!

We are having his real Birthday cake and candles for his party on Saturday. Lukie loved singing Happy Birthday over and over and over again! He even sang to himself! (see video)
