Best Hospital For Lucas Still No Diagnosis 8-20-08

This week has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. I knew it would be tough, but I didn't imagine this. Lucas had his biopsy done today to see if he has Hirschsprungs Disease. They said we should have preliminary results back on Friday. I asked if it came back negative what would it be the doctor said Chronic Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction. I also ask what would you do for CIPO he said what we are doing now and that the only cure for CIPO is Small Bowel Transplant. Wow my heart stopped, I wasn't expecting to here that, especially after going though a 21/2 hour presentation on small bowel transplants. Let me tell you I couldn't imagine ever making a choice like that, it was very tough to sit through. I'm very thankful I'm a member of this church and the blessing me and my family receives. We talked to a family from Buffalo who daughter had a small bowel transplant 3 months ago and is doing good. Even though they are not LDS they said remember one thing always have faith. Let me tell you I try to be positive and have faith, but I would be lying if I said there aren't days I question WHY? I just want a treatable diagnosis. I just pray it comes back positive like all the doctors here. I slept with Lucas at the Hospital last night, it was a rough night for him he would vomit whenever I would feed him and he didn't get to bed until 5:00am. I really enjoyed that night just me and him, he didn't feel good but he still was couing and smiling, if I could only learn from his example.
I love my family and will always be there for them. My Patriarchal blessing states "your role in your marriage is one of a peace maker", I try to remember this. I just wish we had some good answers to our questions. Allison reminds me enjoy the moment. Please keep him in your Prayers during this difficult time. Thanks

Family Fun - New Hospital We Come!

We spent three enjoyable days with our four boys and the Nobb's family. Mike posed as Mr. Rogers and the kids played in the land of make believe at Pittsburgh's children's museum. Pittsburgh is Fred Rogers home town. We also visited Sorgel Farm's and a cold day of swimming. The kids are having a blast with their 5 cousins.

Today the fun ended when we took Lucas to the children's hospital. He is being seen by GI doctors as well as transplant doctors. Tuesday he is scheduled for a lower GI test. Wednesday is an ultrasound. Thursday is a upper GI test. And we will discharged Friday afternoon. They may also do another biopsy. There may still be a chance he may have a diffrent type of Herschsprung's disease that is more rare than what they tested him for in Utah. The testing may change during the week. Keep posted day by day for updates!

Going To Pittsburgh Children's Hospital August 13th

Courtesy of Mike Pittsburgh 2004

We are going to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital (Link) on August
th, and have a scheduled return date of August 23rd, but you never know exactly how long when you're at a hospital. We never thought we would ever had to leave state, but we feel like this is what he needs and everything will fall into place. We our blessed to have the Nobbs family (Allison's Sister) in Pittsburgh to let us crash their home and family life.

Continue to check out the blog for updated information while we are at the Intestinal Care Unit at PCH.
